| In rural Tanzania most children who finish primary education are unable to continue their education at the secondary level. Poverty, lack of schools and HIV/AIDS are the three biggest reasons. Jifundishe is committed to providing the knowledge and access to resources that allow young people to learn more about the world around them as well as skills to help them gain employment. Our mission is to provide opportunities for young people as well as adults to teach themselves using technology, books, and programs relevant to their lives and their futures.
Empowering young girls with positive self-esteem, confidence and opportunities for employment is critical in the fight to reduce the transmission of HIV in Tanzania. Jifundishe provides programs and support for girls struggling to achieve success in school and in their own lives. For many young women, a chance to learn is something they can only dream about. Jifundishe targets programs to help young women develop self-confidence and recognize that they can control their sexual experiences, thus reducing the spread of HIV.
Jifundishe also facilitates building projects that benefit the rural communities of the Arumeru District. Building clinics, libraries and other facilities that promote literacy and education is part of Jifundishe's mission to provide educational opportunities in rural villages. The Jifundishe Free Library is the centerpiece of our projects and is one of only a handful of free, independent rural libraries in the country.
Jifundishe hosts volunteers from all over the world. Our volunteers have an experience rich in culture, language and education. Our volunteers not only help this community but gain a deeper understanding of how people live, work and struggle in developing nations.
