| The Houston Scholarship Fund |
In 2007, Jifundishe launched the Houston Scholarship Fund. This fund was established by Annie and Andre Houston to enable children living in poverty to access government education at the secondary level as well as opportunities for further education after that. The fund now has 40 students participating at various levels and covers all educational costs for the students’ entire programs. Our scholarship fund recipients live in homes that are poor and often, they have no parents and live with relatives already overburdened by their own families needs. Jifundishe visits each home and develops a personal relationship with the students and their families to ensure that the students have what they need in order to succeed in their individual programs. Many of our HSF students are performing at the top of their class. There are many applications for support waiting for funding. Jifundishe is committed to helping these applicants, especially girls and young women who are often excluded from the educational process for various reasons, cultural as well as financial. It costs $1,000.00 to provide a four-year secondary school program for a student, but the fund accepts any donation amount and we pool this money so that we can support as many students as possible.
